Building on the momentum of her spring 2023 release HYMN, which fulfilled a years-long collaboration with pianist Vicky Chow, composer Cassie Wieland’s evocative, vibrant work for granularly synthesized and electro-acoustically affected solo piano has borne an energetic percussion-forward summer remix. This reimagination of Wieland's music, recorded at Roulette Intermedium, began as an homage on social media by percussionist and composer Evan Chapman. "I‘ve been a fan of Cassie Wieland's music for many years now," writes remixer Chapman, "first having been captivated by the way her percussion works such as 'Weeds' and 'Slip' perfectly walked the line between contemporary concert music and pop-influenced ambient music.”

Chapman changed up his laptop-centric creative process for this track, improvising on an augmented drum kit equipped with a Roland SPD-SX drum pad to trigger samples of Vicky Chow's original recording of HYMN amidst acoustic drums. Those hybrid musical gestures went on to become the building blocks for the remix. “I wrote the climax of this track first and then reverse-engineered a dynamic build towards it later. It was a fun feeling to know where you’re headed, but to have to work to discover how you will eventually arrive there.”
